Our Story
About Le Capitaine
Fresh seafood, Creole cuisine and Mauritian hospitality on Royal Road, Grand Baie — since 1989.
Our Story: Established 1989
Le Capitaine opened its doors on Royal Road in 1989 with a simple mission: to celebrate the bounty of the Indian Ocean and share genuine Mauritian hospitality. Thirty-seven years later, that mission has not changed.
Our dining room keeps its original island character — natural stone walls, wooden beams and traditional shingle roofing — an atmosphere that carries our guests back to another time while the cooking stays fresh and contemporary.
We honour the pioneering spirit of Madame Valette, a figure of local culinary heritage, with our signature Camarons Madame Valette. It is a connection that makes us more than a restaurant: a guardian of the island's gastronomic memory.
Generations of families have celebrated here, and travellers discovering Mauritian cuisine for the first time sit alongside locals who have been coming since the very beginning.
